Q: IS IT PERMISSIBLE TO MAKE SALAAM OR RESPOND TO SALAAM WHILST IN THE TOILET?
A: One should not speak in the toilet. One should not make thikr, One should not respond to the one who says Alhamdulillah upon sneezing, one should not respond to the Azaan and one should not make Salaam. Such acts are not permissible whilst relieving one’s self or when one is in the toilet.
Q: IS TOILET PAPER AN ALTERNATIVE TO WATER FOR ISTINJAA? WHAT IF THE TOILET PAPER IS WET?
A: Toilet paper, even if wet, is insufficient. Water is a must for Istinjaa! Without water, one’s Istinjaa is not valid.
Q: IF A TOILET IS SUCH THAT IF ONE SITS STRAIGHT ON THE TOILET THEN EITHER ONE WILL BE FACING THE QIBLAH OR ONE WOULD BE FACING ONE’S BACK TOWARDS THE QIBLAH, THEN WHAT SHOULD ONE DO IN SUCH A SITUATION? SHOULD ONE FACE THE QIBLAH AND SIMPLY MAKE TAUBAH AFTERWARDS?
A: A person should turn towards the right or the left in such a situation in order to avoid facing towards the Qiblah or facing one’s back to the Qiblah. According to the Hadeeth, it is prohibited to face the Qiblah whilst relieving one’s self. Taubah is not a licence for sin.
